The cloudy skies didn’t prevent the boys from spring from manning the field and playing some “hard ball”. They were all ready to go after a couple of months of gym practice.

The PYO Devils towered over Big Blue in the opener taking home the gold ring with a four to one victory. Justin Guzman dominated the hill with eight “K”s. Frankie “Cobble hill” Scotto was a power house at the plate with a three RBI home run.

The Devils lost a nail biter against the Green Machine nine to six. Their big gun Mike Serrano tripled drove home two runs. First base was solid with Mike Mazzeo covering the bag and Danny Caravello stood tall on second.

Other Major Division action saw the PYO Red Sox riding a roller coaster with its ups and downs in their season openers. They came up with a three all tie against Mean Green with Eddie Morgan commanding the hill. Three shut out innings will go to his credit in the record books. Danny Rivera plated one of the Sox’s runs with an RBI single.

In life there are a few things you need to learn in order to survive. You don’t tug on Superman’s cape, you don’t pull the mask off the Old Lone Ranger and you don’t try to steal second with Frankie Bruno behind the plate.

In the red Sox second encounter they took a shellacking against the Black Nights. Their lineup was all tuned up with Joel Cruz pounding out a two run double and jerry Lucido one run triple. But their efforts fell short to over take the Nights. The big play of the game went to Sal Polizzi behind the plate. On a drop third strike Polizzi kept his cool and nailed the runner on third attempting to steal the plate.
